Poultry Farm Business Plan in Pakistan: A Study on Profitability
Pakistan is one of the major producers of poultry products in South Asia, with a significant contribution to the country's agricultural sector. Poultry farming has emerged as a lucrative business in recent years due to its relatively low cost and high demand for poultry products. However, setting up a successful poultry farm requires careful planning, including identifying profitable farm sizes and analyzing factors that affect profitability.
A study conducted in district Dir Lower, Pakistan aimed to analyze the profitability of different farm sizes of broiler poultry farming. The research used a multiple regression model to identify significant variables affecting profit, including education, experience, age of respondent, and farm size. The results showed that profit is positively affected by these factors, while mortality of chicks has a negative impact.
The study found that large-scale poultry farms generated the highest net benefits, followed by medium and small-sized farms. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed statistically significant differences among different sizes of poultry farms at a 5% significance level. Independent sample t-tests also indicated no significant difference in profit between sole proprietors and partnerships.
The average profit of large-scale poultry farms was found to be significantly higher than that of medium and small-scale farms, with net benefits ranging from Rs. 85228 for large-scale farms to Rs. for small-scale farms.
To analyze the data, various statistical techniques were employed, including profit function, multiple regression model, ANOVA, and independent t-test. The study selected 92 poultry farms proportionately from a total of 460 farms in four tehsils (Adinzai, Balambat, Timergara, and Sumerbagh) of district Dir Lower.
The findings of this study provide valuable insights for poultry farmers, policymakers, and investors in Pakistan's agricultural sector. The results highlight the importance of education, experience, age of respondent, and farm size in determining profit, as well as the need to minimize mortality rates. The study also underscores the potential for large-scale poultry farms to generate significant profits.
Overall, this research contributes to our understanding of the profitability of different farm sizes in broiler poultry farming in Pakistan and provides a framework for developing effective business plans for poultry farmers in the region.
